John Stamos Claims He Was Rejected by the Church of Scientology for This Hilarious Reason
Before snagging the role of Uncle Jesse in Full House, John Stamos failed to acquire another title: member of the Church of Scientology.
The beloved actor says he was allegedly recruited to join the Church of Scientology when he was 17, but his presence wasn't well received.
On the Friends in High Places podcast, Stamos claims he was lured to the church by a "hot girl" he met at acting class who asked him to meet her and some friends at some "[place] on Hollywood Boulevard."
"I was working at my dad’s restaurant at the time and I said, ‘Dad, I gotta go.’ So, I went and it was the Scientology building," he recalled.
Hollywood legend John Travolta, who joined the church in 1975 and is one of its most famous faces, inspired Stamos to give it a shot.
"Seeing [Grease] was like, ‘I wanna be that.' I wanted to be John Travolta, I still do. Well, minus the whatever it is that they do," Stamos joked.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, the General Hospital alum was quickly rejected by the church.

After arriving at the Scientology building, Stamos became curious about a gadget known as the "E-Meter," which is an "electropsychometer device [that] can indicate changes in emotional states to identify stored engrams and 'levels of spiritual distress,'" according to the Church of Scientology's site.
Stamos couldn't help himself and started tinkering with the device.
"I was doing a Peabody and Sherman [impression] and they didn’t like that. Then, I was just f---ing around so much, they said, ‘Get out [and] get going.’ They just kicked me out," he claims.
When podcast host Matt Friend joked that Stamos was "too annoying" to join the church, the actor agreed, saying, "That’s pretty bad, I must have been terrible."
