Former K-Pop Stars Sentenced to Prison for Rape
Former K-Pop stars, Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon, were sentenced to prison for rape on Friday (November 29).
According to the Korean Herald, they were sentenced to six and five years in prison. The men were found guilty of gang-raping women who were unconscious from alcohol consumption. Joon-young was also found guilty of filming the rape and sharing it in online group chats including a messaging app, KakaoTalk.
“The accused perpetrated sexual crimes against multiple women, degrading women and treating them as mere tools of sexual pleasure,” Judge Kang Seong-soo, who presided over the case, said in his verdict. “It’s hard to fathom the pain the victims must have suffered.”
Aside from the time in prison, the men reportedly have to take 80 hours each of education for sex offenders treatment course and will not be able to hold jobs involving children or people with disabilities for five years.
The crime took place in 2016 and the court did not reveal how many victims there were. The men reportedly have a week to appeal.
Joon-young retired from the entertainment industry in March after finding fame via reality television while Choi was a member of the group FT Island.
