Keri Hilson honored songwriter-producer David Foster on Tuesday at the BMI Pop Music Awards with a performance of Whitney Houston's Foster-penned hit 'I Have Nothing.'

Foster was the recipient of the BMI Icon award, in recognition of the dozens of hits he's written over the years.

Hilson's decision to take on the smash hit from 'The Bodyguard' was a challenge. 'I Have Nothing' is not easy to sing, and while Keri doesn't sound great on the 30-second video clip that has surfaced, she says Foster himself was pleased.

After the show, Hilson tweeted, "He came over & said, 'Your performance was bad-ass!!' Told you he was genius, heh."

'I Have Nothing' was one of several blockbuster hits from 'The Bodyguard,' which starred Houston and Kevin Costner. The track earned Foster an Academy Award nomination and helped him earn induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame last year.
