In lieu of their annual Video Music Awards show in Japan, MTV will be hosting a Video Music Aid Japan event this year. After Japan was struck by a devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11, the world pulled together to help, and the assistance kept on rolling into April. This charity event will donate all proceeds to Red Cross' relief efforts, and several stars -- including Lady Gaga -- are due to attend.

MTV's Video Music Aid Japan will be hosted by AKB48, and will focus on music performances and raising awareness about the disaster. The event will will be held in concurrence with Japan's Music Of Hope campaign, which MTV set up in March. The two-hour special will air across international MTV stations -- MTV Japan, MTV Korea, MTV China and MTV Southeast Asia. A one-hour Video Music Aid Japan special will also air worldwide as a part of MTV's World Stage initiative.

Since the quake and the tsunami hit, recording artists from all genres have been doing their part to lend a hand to the victims in Japan. Lady Gaga lent a remixed version of 'Born This Way' to the 'Songs for Japan' benefit album, and she also released a series of bracelets, which helped raise more than $250,000 for disaster relief.
