Even the most casual Gilmore Girls fan is likely aware of the mystery surrounding those legendary final four words. You know, the ones that show co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino imagined would bring the series to a complete and final close. Very few people on this planet have been made aware of what they are, and those who do know aren't telling. But according to Lauren Graham, they may not be quite as satisfying as we imagine.

"I didn’t know them and [Amy] didn’t realize that I didn’t know them. She assumed I knew so we hadn’t really talked about it," she said in a recent cover story with Entertainment Weekly.

"For some reason, my first question was, ‘Who says them?’ Because I assumed it was one character, when it’s two. It’s not as resolved as I thought they would be. I thought they would be, ‘Honey I’m home!’ or something like, ‘Goodbye, small town!’ So I was like, ‘Oh? Really?’"

Graham continued, hinting that the series’ reboot may not serve as the ultimate redo fans have been begging for since that disastrous Season 7 ending: "To read the final episode, it’s not totally final. In the horror movie equivalent, all the aliens are dead. Wait. No, they’re not! I keep saying, ‘Hey, does anyone else notice this isn’t actually an ending?’ Amy and Dan just giggle at me.”

And it’s not just Graham who feels this way. Her co-star and onscreen daughter, Alexis Bledel, echoed similar thoughts.

"It is very much what Amy wanted,” she said. “If anyone knows her storytelling they’ll maybe know what to expect. I honestly don’t know what to say about it without using specifics. It does kind of, hmm, it does kind of throw you.”

Are you excited for the prospect of less resolution than last time? Do you think Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel are merely trying to pull a fast one over on us all? Will those final four words leak before the series finally airs? Let us know your thoughts (and your guesses!) in the comments below.
