Nicole Scherzinger has been chosen by Simon Cowell to host the US edition of 'The X Factor,' a source close to the show tells PEOPLE.

The Pussycat Dolls frontwoman served as a judge on the UK version of the show last year and impressed the program's other judges. "This girl has the X Factor in every way," said UK judge Lewis Walsh. "She was incredibly impressive and ticked every box." Cowell himself sung Scherzinger's praises in an interview with Ryan Seacrest earlier this year. "I absolutely adore her," he gushed. "She's gorgeous and ruthlessly ambitious."

Scherzinger previously was a judge on two seasons of the NBC music competition 'The Sing-Off.' She also was the champion on Season 10 of ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars.' The US edition of 'The X Factor' is slated to premiere on Fox this fall. It's unknown whether Scherzinger will have a co-host on the show.

In the meantime, Scherzinger is set to release her single 'Right There' (featuring 50 Cent) to radio on May 24. The song appears on her debut solo album, 'Killer Love,' which has been released in Europe but not yet in the States.
