R. Kelly was born in Chicago as Robert Sylvester Kelly, busking under Chicago's L trains as a teen before hitting it big.

Kelly made his musical debut in 1992 with the group Public Announcement, before flying solo in 1993 with his album '12Play.' Good luck going to any party and not hearing his tracks 'Bump n' Grind,' 'Your Body's Callin',' 'Ignition (Remix)' or 'I'm a Flirt.' Kelly's ballads are equally, if not more, ubiquitous, earning numerous Grammys for his 'Space Jam' jam 'I Believe I Can Fly' and 'Ali' soundtrack contribution 'The World's Greatest.'

In addition to his own tracks, Kelly has collaborated with, written and produced for a slew of other artists, including then-underage wife Aaliyah's 1994 debut album 'Age Ain't Nothing But a Number,' Michael Jackson's ballad 'You Are Not Alone' and many more.

Kelly has released 10 studio albums, sold 38.5 million albums in the U.S. and over 54 million albums worldwide -- but most importantly, this is the guy behind 'Trapped in the Closet,' with the third installment of the series recently premiering on IFC.
