Reba McEntire to Return to TV As Star Of A ‘Southern Gothic Soap Opera’
The project — which is currently untitled — was created by Mark Cherry and will feature Reba in a leading role “as a small-town Kentucky sheriff who teams up with a Middle Eastern FBI agent to investigate an act of terrorism during a local 4th of July parade.”
The forthcoming show will mark Reba’s first time back on television since the ABC sitcom Malibu Country ran for one season, from 2012 to 2013. Before that, she was in the popular WB sitcom Reba, which had a six season run.
Deadline further reports that creator Mark Cherry — who’s behind the mammoth ABC hit Desperate Housewives, as well as Lifetime's Devious Maids — will serve as a writer for the series, as well as show runner. He’s set to executive produce along with Sabrina Wind — through their Cherry-Wind Productions — Reba and Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel, both of Acme Productions.
