Robert Pattinson was just kidding about those dog masturbation comments, jeez!

The actor, who recently told Jimmy Kimmel that the director of his latest film, Good Time, asked him to sexually stimulate a dog during a scene for the movie, now says he was just making a bad joke.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday (August 3), the Twilight star shared, "There's this one scene which we shot, which was basically, there's a drug dealer who busts into the room and I was sleeping with the dog and basically giving the dog a hand job. I didn’t agree to do the real one, so we made a fake red rocket. It’ll be on the DVD extras."

Speaking to PEOPLE, however, the actor clarified that the story, which drew ire from fans and animal advocates, was just a joke.

"The story I told on Jimmy Kimmel seems to have spiraled out of control. What didn’t come across is that this was supposed to be a joke. No one at all expected or assumed that anything like that would happen on the Good Time set. We are all huge animal lovers and would obviously never do anything to harm an animal," Pattinson said in a statement.

"Everyone involved in Good Time are amazing professionals and have come together to make a movie that I’m extremely proud of," he continued. "I feel embarrassed that in the moment, I was trying to make Jimmy laugh, only to create confusion and a false impression."
