While President Donald Trump insists on trying to set the world on fire, Samantha Bee is gearing up to return the favor — she's planning to roast The Donald, and on an evening that's particularly meaningful to The White House.

Bee, TBS' reliably cutting pundit, told The New York Times she and her team will take Trump to task on the same night as the White House Correspondents' Dinner, currently scheduled for April 29. Called the "Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner," Bee's idea manifested after the election, when it became clear that the annual event would be unlike any that's preceded it (you know, now that Trump has declared war on the press).

"We were talking out loud about whether we thought the White House Correspondents’ dinner would change during a Trump presidency, or if it would even exist,” she said. “And then we thought, ‘Why don’t we just do one, just to do it in the way that we would want it done if we were hosting it?’”

"We’re not trying to supersede [the White House Correspondents’ Dinner],” she added. “We just want to be there in case something happens — or doesn’t happen — and ensure that we get to properly roast the president."

Finally, Bee insisted that the event isn't just a stunt, but a means to enforce the point that freedom of the press is an especially critical constitutional right.

"The evening is sure to bring plenty of surprises, music, food, and laughter—and if you’re not careful you just might learn something,” said Bee. “Specifically, you’ll learn how screwed we’d be without a free press."
