Look to you like Selena Gomez gained a little weight recently? Well, she did, and she's got no issue saying so.

Next question?

During an On Air With Ryan Seacrest interview last week, the "Good for You" singer explained that dealing with body-shamers is a brand new experience, but one that she's no less prepared to handle.

"I did gain weight, but I don’t care," she tells the host in the video above. "I feel very empowered and confident in where I am. I think it took me a long while to get there because the past year was so interesting because I've never been body-shamed before. I dealt with a whole other set of issues—that was really interesting."

And when Gomez first got the the sense that her appearance might become a topic of conversation, she decided to strike first.

"You know what's interesting? I posted this photo on Instagram and I was like, 'There’s more to love and I’m happy with myself,'" she recalls. "The reason why I did that was because I didn't want them to win. Because then the next day, it wasn't about how I gained weight, it was about how I embraced it. And that’s just kind of my approach."

And her approach has certainly inspired her new sound, which she admits is a little racier, but more a matter of embracing self-worth.

"There's nothing wrong with a woman being comfortable, confident—whatever it is that you feel. I love that," she explains. "I love feeling like I'm in love and want to look good for someone, but at the same time, there's no guy in my video. I'm saying I am a diamond."
