Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty sound like stars on 'Let Me Be Your Star,' a song from the pilot episode of the upcoming Broadway-themed musical drama 'Smash.'

While the show's debut episode, which airs Feb. 6, features a few well-known songs like Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful,' 'Let Me Be Your Star' is an original tune that shows off the vocal talents of McPhee and Hilty, who play Broadway actresses Karen Cartwright and Ivy Lynn, respectively.

McPhee opens the mid-tempo track with a verse that references the central theme of the episode, Marilyn Monroe: "Fade in on a girl with a hunger for fame / And a face and a name to remember / The past fades away because as of this day / Norma Jean's gone, she's moving on / Her smile and your fantasies play a duet / That will make you forget where you are / The music starts playing / It's the beat of her heart saying let me be your star."

Dramatic strings help lead the song to a climax where the ladies sing together, "Fade up on a star with it all in her sights / All the love and the lights that surround her." McPhee and Hilty sound terrific while belting out identical notes over most of the final chorus, finishing with a bang with a brief moment of harmony on the final, drawn-out note.

'Smash' airs on Mondays at 10PM ET on NBC. The entire first episode is still available as a free download on iTunes.
