The Doggfather himself, Snoop Dogg, is set to be named a BMI Icon at their Annual Urban Awards, according to the organization's website.

The hip-hop community honors the biggest songs, songwriters, and performers of the previous year at the Urban Awards, which will include a 'Doggystyle' star-studded musical tribute to the rap star. Snoop will join the likes of previous BMI honorees such as James Brown, the Jacksons, and the Bee-Gees. Sounds like good company to us!

Snoop burst onto the music scene in 1992 when he was featured on ten of the 16 tracks on Dr. Dre's classic album 'The Chronic,' which helped to popularize the West Coast rap style. His first solo album, 'Doggystyle', dropped in 1993 and debuted as No.1 on the Billboard charts. The album has since been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA.

The 'Gin an Juice' rapper has consequently released 11 records spanning two decades. His most recent venture, 'Doggumentary' features an all-star cast of producers and rappers including Kanye West, Bootsy Collins, T-Pain, and Wiz Khalifa.
