Olympic bronze medalist Tom Daley officially announced his engagement to his boyfriend of two-and-a-half years, the Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, via the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of The Times today (October 2).

According to the Telegraph, the announcement read as follows: "The engagement is announced between Tom, son of Robert and Debra Daley of Plymouth, and Lance, son of Jeff Bisch of Philadelphia and Anne Bisch of Lake Providence.”

Daley posted an image of the couple's wedding rings to Instagram, with the caption, "#HeSaidYES [ring emoji] and then #ISaidYES Thanks for all the lovely messages!"

Daley’s mother, meanwhile, said she and the rest of their family were “absolutely thrilled” with the couple’s impending nuptials. She said (via the Telegraph), “It’s wonderful news, we are extremely happy for them. I’ll be looking at dresses and hats.”

She also noted the age difference between the two (Daley is 21, while Black is 41), but seems ultimately unbothered by it, saying, "There is an age gap, 20 years, but then again age is but a number...I am not sad because in losing Tom I am gaining another, so it makes everything all good.”

She also shared the moment Daley called her to inform her of the engagement, saying, "When Tom told me I could just feel the excitement in his voice. Just hearing him feel that excitement made me feel excited. It was a really nice emotion. It was just a special moment. We are all looking forward to it. The rest of the family really like Lance. Everyone gets on really well with him, even though he is American, but there we go."

A date has yet to be set for Daley and Black's wedding, but it's likely they'll hold off until after the 2016 Rio Olympics, which Daley recently announced he was qualified to compete in.
