5 Seconds of Summer Bare All for Rolling Stone Story, Fans Divided Over Interview
The new Rolling Stone issue due to hit newsstands next week will feature 5 Seconds of Summer baring all, both physically and metaphorically, as the magazine highlights the behind-the-scenes lives of the "world's hottest band." But not all fans seem to be pleased regarding what they're reading.
The cover will feature all four members -- Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Callum Hood, Ashton Irwin -- posing naked with nothing but their hands covering strategic places, and tattoos of phrases and words covering their bodies.
Inside the expose into the band, the guys openly admit that they're living the clichéd lifestyle of sex, booze and rock 'n' roll.
The story opens with the author, Patrick Doyle, describing what seems like an awkward morning interview after the band was clearly up all night partying. "I'm really hungover," admits Luke Hemmings, while Callum Hood is witnessed pouring bourbon into his Coke at 5 p.m. in the afternoon.
The article continues with a look into the rise of the band's fame, and the price that comes with it. Michael Clifford, for example, talks about his 20th birthday bash and a present that was given to him by Twenty One Pilots drummer Josh Dun: a sex toy before asking the author, "You've never used one of these?"
The band also tells a story about crashing Justin Bieber's American Music Awards party. "I think he hates us," says Clifford. "It was f---g crazy, people standing on tables and shit. I probably shouldn't say this, but he had his own album on loop for, like, two or three hours."
When asked about hooking up with fans, Hemmings tells Rolling Stone, "When you put four young dudes on a tour bus, playing theaters, then arenas, you're going to have sex with a lot of girls, I guess. We had a good time." And when he was asked about sleeping with multiple girls in one night, Hemmings responds, "I feel like I shouldn't say. You could say the possibility of that is high."
Hood adds that the fanbase was a bit overwhelming at first, saying, "I had all this attention from all these girls that would have never liked me in school, coming up to me and saying things, handing me numbers. It was like, 'Holy shit, f---yeah!' I got a bit reckless."
In a more serious note, Clifford opens up about suffering from mild depression and admits to taking too many sleeping pills at night. "I've been sad as hell lately," he confesses to RS. "I've become, like, an advocate for mental health, you know?"
Some fans seem to have been shaken up by the article and took to social media to express their disdain.
Others, however, remain defiant on staying loyal to the band and have even gone as far as claiming that the article is either exaggerated or even "fake."
