On tonight's 'American Idol,' where the hopefuls were tasked with singing songs from the year in which they were born, Stefano Langone stepped into the light ... the spotlight that is! The singer took control of 'If You Don't Know Me By Now,' which was popularized by Simply Red in 1989 as a remake of a Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes song.

It is a risky song, since it's so vocally driven and note specific, but Langone wasn't phased and remained confident. He delivered what Randy Jackson dubbed "the best performance of the night" because it had "the highest degree of difficulty like the Olympics."

Jennifer Lopez
declared, "10, 10, 10" and told Langone that he could quite possibly take the whole shebang if he keeps it up. She also told him to connect with her and look in her eyes when performing, which she added is her advice for all of the contestants. Steven Tyler complemented Langone on his "beautiful phrasing" and for "stepping out."

Langone has hung out on the back burner a bit, with James Durbin and Casey Abrams nabbing the lion's share of the attention when it comes to the dudes in the competition. After tonight's soul-stirring spectacle, he has effectively moved front and center.
