The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will include a tribute to Britney Spears, and now the pop diva herself is starring in a new promo to let the world know.

The clip shows the singer partying with her friends to a medley of snippets from the likes of Madonna, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson and, of course, Spears. Signs on the wall call out mega hits by the iconic stars as dancers show off their moves in ensembles inspired by the 'I Wanna Go' singer's past videos.

Details about the tribute are still under wraps, but since Selena Gomez has incorporated a Britney tribute in her nightly We Own the Night tour set, she's a major contender for the production. Plus, the teen star is already scheduled as a presenter, so she's already a part of the awards show.

Whether the 29-year-old femme fatale will grace the stage with another VMA performance remains to be seen. However, it's worth noting that Spears' tour schedule does allow for an in-person appearance.

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9PM ET/PT on MTV and MTV.com. Fan voting is open now through Aug. 16.
