Chris Brown to Launch Limited-Edition Toy Line in May
Chris Brown has teamed up with contemporary artist Ron English to launch a line of collectible toys and art sculptures, reports Pop & Hiss. Breezy is calling the line Dum English and the toys are described as creepy little astronaut dolls meant to symbolize the downside of celebrity.
Brown is showcasing the limited-edition toys (only 1,000 have been made) at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, Calif., on May 2. The event also will feature English's work and some behind-the-scenes montages of how the figurines were made. In addition, the duo will paint a life-size Dum English spaceman in front of attendees.
English is an influential pop-art creator who is known for his mashed-up toy sculptures (like the Incredible Barack Obama) and innovative street artwork. He also illustrated Brown's cover art for his last album 'F.A.M.E.'
"Hands down right now my guy is Ron English," Brown said in a statement. "Ron has to be the more creative, 'out there' artist I see. His work is so precise but at the same time so unorthodox. I think it's incredible to be able to see him do what he does and be a fan."
English also has a mutual respect for Brown, as well. "Chris is one of the sweetest, most talented people I've ever met," he states. "Working with Chris is like being a kid in a candy store. The ideas we come with are fun and colorful, young and daring."
Proceeds of sales from the toys will go to Brown’s Symphonic Love foundation, which aims to provide support and funding for arts programs dedicated to women and the artistic development of children.
