Christina Aguilera Commits Super Bowl National Anthem Lyrical Faux Pas
Oops! Christina Aguilera certainly offered a unique take on the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLV. While some critics felt she veered too far from the song's melody by belting out the song with her signature, stunning voice and vibrato, there's one moment that cannot be denied or debated.
Aguilera, looking incredibly sexy with her red painted mouth and conservative black outfit, completely omitted a line from the song. That whole line about "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?" Aguilera skipped that part and ad-libbed what sounded like "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming."
Maybe it was nerves? While Aguilera has sang the National Anthem beautifully and without fail in the past, she certainly committed a verbal faux pas at this year's Super Bowl. She did issue a brief statement to The Associated Press, which read, "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
