Christina Aguilera appeared on the 'Today' show Tuesday morning, telling host Matt Lauer that she was not into singing competition shows like 'American Idol' before signing on as a coach for 'The Voice.' A night earlier, she appeared on 'Late Show With David Letterman' to deliver the 'Top Ten' list.

Aguilera told Lauer that the reason she didn't watch shows like 'Idol' was because she would "feel bad for the contestants they’d poke fun at just for TV sake." However, she said the format of 'The Voice' was appealing to her. "It just struck me as a genius concept because it almost takes it back to before you had music videos or internet access to your favorite stars," she explained. "You really have to be moved by the voice. So this was special to me, genuinely.”

The pop superstar also addressed her recent troubles, including her divorce and her arrest for public drunkenness. "Hey, if you want a career doing this, you have to roll with the punches," she remarked. "You know, you’re going to have your highs and lows, but you keep going."

Meanwhile, the night before, Aguilera appeared on 'Late Show With David Letterman' to offer the "Top Ten Tips for Aspiring Singers." Among the quips were "If your name is 'Larry,' change it to 'Larry Bieber'," and "Learn the lyrics to the national anthem."
