The CW released their first promo for their new series Riverdale on November 28, and as promised, it's a far cry from the squeaky-clean adventures you associate with Archie, Jughead and the gang. Further, if you've ever found yourself questioning how a marmalade-hued-hair-parted-in-the-middle Poindexter like Archie was fought over by two stunning young women in the comics, rest assured that this new live incarnation — played by New Zealand-born actor K.J. Apa — is just as genetically blessed as every other actor on the CW's roster.

While we may see some of the thematically-repetitive and tiresome comic book romantic rivalry between Betty and Veronica play out on the show, creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (who's produced on Glee and Supergirl)'s vision for the series is described by Nerdist as more Twin Peaks meets Veronica Mars. The Riverdale gang of friends, entering their sophomore year of high school, are caught up in a V Mars-style mystery involving the death of a boy named Jason Blossom.

"It’s definitely Archie, but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket," Aguirre-Sacasa told EW upon unveiling the teaser.

We see (hot) Archie, a girl in a spooky black robe, a bag full of cash, and some foreboding images of what looks like a body search in water. What does it all mean? We'll find out when it premieres on January 6, 2017.

Riverdale costars The Suite Life of Zack and Cody's Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Beverly Hills, 90210's Luke Perry as (hot) Archie's (hot) dad Fred Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty and newcomer Camila Mendes as Veronica. Ashleigh Murray will play Josie McCoy, best known as the leader of a little band called Josie and the Pussycats.
