Practicing medicine? Pft! Who needs that noble discipline and profession when you can sing on 'The Voice'? Devon Barley, with his geeky glasses and slight build, is taking time off from med school in Vermont to try his hand at a singing career, and he crooned sweetly on tonight's episode.

He admitted that his parents are a wee bit nervous about his decision to put school on hold in favor of chasing something as fleeting and eats-its-young as the music industry, but he really breezed his way through Jason Mraz's summery smash 'I'm Yours,' which we thought was solid enough to ease his parents' fears.

Both Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine, whose voice he was most similar to, turned their chairs around for him. Even Christina Aguilera said she liked Barley's style, but felt that he would probably work most effectively on Levine's team.

Ultimately, Barley chose to go with Levine over Green, since they both have complimentary, blue-eyed soul vocal styles. Barley's nerd rock chic is very right now, but his voice has a universal enough of an appeal that could carry him into this competition. We won't be paging Dr. Barley at least for a few more weeks.
