Elton John Working on ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Musical, So It’ll Probably Be Good
If you’re of the belief that what the world needs most right now is a musical adaptation of the 2006 comedy The Devil Wears Prada, consider yourself in good company.
“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting,” John said in a statement. "I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”
John is well-versed in musicals, having composed the music for the hit production Aida as well as several tracks for the Disney movie The Lion King, including this Academy Award-winning masterpiece:
Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions released a joint statement with producer Kevin McCollum about the forthcoming project, saying, "To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story.
“We needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion," it continued. "We could think of only two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick. That’s all!"
John will compose the music while Rudnick -- who's behind the screenplays for In & Out and Addams Family Values and has contributed to Broadway with the show I Hate Hamlet -- has been tasked with writing the book and lyrics.
