Fiona Apple performed with Jon Brion at the Largo Theater in Los Angeles last week, where she revealed that she's been sitting on new material for "over a year."

That little nugget of information is as infuriating as it is true. According to a show review on Grantland, the singer made a casual mention of the fact on stage. "I can't remember [how to play] any of my new songs because they've been done for a f---ing year," Apple said.

If the words "wait, what?" come to mind, you're not alone. Apple seduced millions of fans with her angst-ridden, lovelorn lyrics, but after 2005's 'Extraordinary Machine,' the world has only been privy to blips of the singer-songwriter.

In September 2010, Billboard reported that Apple was set to deliver a new album in Spring 2011. At the time, singer Michelle Branch teased the world about the new material. "Hate to brag but I heard a couple new Fiona Apple tracks today," she tweeted. "Amazing."

According to Grantland's review, Apple performed a series of old covers, including Cliff Edwards' 'Night Owl.' Is this a clue as to what has influenced her new material? We'll just have to wait and see.
