As it turns out, the most popular show on television is not such a big hit on the big screen. 'Glee: The 3D Concert Movie' pulled in only $5.9 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend.

This news is sure to come as a shock to gleeks everywhere -- and it's definitely jaw-dropping in our opinion. We sat in on the power-packed 'Glee' flick on opening night, and it was everything we'd hoped it would be and more, as you can tell by our lengthy review. There were laughs, tears and lots of clapping along ... Though, admittedly, not a full theater.

According to Pop Dust, the 3D concert movie ranked No. 11 against all of the other movies out at the box office, and swallowed nearly five times less than the new 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' blockbuster, which raked $27.5 mil. Additionally, the 'Glee' movie pulled in just a fraction of its 3D concert counterpart, Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never,' which erupted with $70 million tickets sold overall -- $30 mil just in its debut weekend back in February.

Still, come the 'Glee' Season 3 premiere on FOX Sept. 20, we bet the numbers will be right in line with the show's past popularity. Perhaps gleeks simply don't get out much to see movies? Or maybe they already had plans on Friday? Whatever the case, we know we're in for a big fall line-up, even if the silver screen attempt was a bust.
