No matter how much you loved the original Gossip GIrl, it did have one glaring flaw: there wasn't much diversity in the series.Thankfully, the people behind its reboot plan to more accurately showcase New York City's demographic this time around. During the Vulture Festival over the weekend, writer and producer Josh Safran revealed plans for the new series.

“There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show,” he admitted. “Even when I went to private school in New York in the ‘90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl. So, this time around the leads are nonwhite.”

Safran, who also shared that he “was the only gay writer” on the original, added that “there’s a lot of queer content on this show.”

“It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that,” he said, before piquing interest even more. “The thing I can’t say is there is a twist, and that all relates to the twist.”

Last week it was revealed that Kristen Bell would reprise her role as the show's narrator, aka Gossip Girl. Creator Josh Shwartz has also reached out to the series' original cast to let them know they're welcome to be involved in the reboot, though it will be a continuation of the story rather than a remake.
