Hilary Duff made a surprise appearance at Disney's D23 Expo on Friday (August 23). Duff announced that she will be reprising her role as Lizzie McGuire for a spin-off of the classic 2001 Lizzie McGuire series.

The series will follow McGuire's adventures as a 30-year-old millennial trying to navigate in New York City. The show's original creator, Terri Minsky, has signed on to be a showrunner on the series.

"The good news is, is just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie is also grown up,” Duff told the convention crowd. “She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now."

Duff revealed that her character is working as an apprentice to a "fancy New York City decorator." McGuire has her dream man who owns a chic SoHo restaurant and dream apartment in Brooklyn.

For fans of the original show, never fear, McGuire's iconic cartoon 13-year-old version of herself will return, acting as her inner thoughts. No release date has been announced for the show, though Disney+ will launch on November 12, 2019. It is not clear if other cast members will be making a return to the reboot.

The original Lizzie McGuire series aired from 2001 to 2004 and concluded with The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
