Lady Gaga Talks About the Fame With RuPaul on ‘What’s The Tee?’ Podcast: Listen
RuPaul, spiritual guru, is on a roll right now, mama: an eleventh studio album on the way (the politically conscious American, out on March 24), a ninth season of RuPaul's Drag Race — even a newly announced, J.J. Abrams-produced fictionalized dramedy about her rise to fame on the way.
Now, just ahead of the Season 9 premiere of RPDR, Ru's just dropped a new episode of her always fascinating What's The Tee? podcast with co-host Michelle Visage. And the special guest? The Season 9 premiere workroom-crashing, show-stopping pink hat enthusiast herself, Lady Gaga. (Yaaaaas Gaga, etc.)
Now, a heads up: the first fifty minutes of the podcast don't even feature Gaga (she ran late) — but don't just skip ahead, Little Monsters. Ru and Michelle's chat about the state of the Internet, trolls, Reddit, spoiling the show's secrets, "trophy lives," ego, bullying, fame — The Fame Monster, if you will — is a fascinating listen in its own right.
Later on, once Gaga finally does join in on the conversation in the last twenty minutes, during which she talks about her own meteoric rise to fame, lasting success, pre-fame friendships, security, the underground club scene and heavy metal — and losing an expensive ring at a club in Melbourne mid-performance.
"I used to really shut down, get emotional, run to my car and cry, hold my security guard and weep in the arms of people that I didn't even maybe know that well...I really had a hard time," she explained of the early days of fame. And now? "90%, I don't give a s--t if somebody's got a camera in my face when I go to the grocery store."
