Lady Gaga Claps Back at Super Bowl Body-Shamers: ‘Be Relentlessly You’
Musicians and performers seemed to unanimously agree that Lady Gaga's Super Bowl 51 performance at Houston's NRG Stadium was something to marvel at. Sadly, some fans could only fixate on how Gaga looked in a crop top, but — true to form — Mother Monster isn't letting 'em get her down.
After Gaga's set, which included high-flying stunts in a catsuit followed by on-the-ground choreography in a crop top, some viewers attacked Gaga for looking out of shape, and insisted her core needed some work. Late last night (February 7), Gaga answered with an incisive Instagram post in which she shook off criticism and pushed for compassion and self-acceptance.
"I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too," she noted. "No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don't need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you. That's the stuff of champions. Thank you so much everyone for supporting me. I love you guys."
And this time, Little Monsters answered most powerfully with messages of support. "You are absolutely perfect and beautiful! Your kindness and compassion is inspiring. I wish I had the talent of your pinky finger," one wrote, while another noted "Your show was wonderful, I watch it and you remain beautiful, fit and have a good heart. Unfortunately no one can please everyone, that's the truth."
