Lady Gaga slayed -- suh-layed -- Carole King's classic hit 'You've Got a Friend,' a soft rock song about counting on your BFF no matter what, when she performed it at the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year Event, which honored King (Jan. 24).

Gaga sat behind a white piano and tickled the ivories as she absolutely rocked the song. Twitter was abuzz about the perf, with those fortunate enough to witness Ma Monster do her thing saying that she pretty much owned it. Duh!

From the clips we've pieced together and posted below for your enjoyment, it's clear that she Gagafied the song, adding lots of her requisite vocal drama and expanding runs, belting it out. The original is way more subdued and low key, but Gaga elevated it with her rendition. It was as though she was singing it to her BFF.

Bravo, bravo!

BTW, can we just say that we love that she wears her sunglasses at night ... and inside.

And in other Gaga news, word is she will duet with fellow diva Barbra Streisand on Babs' forthcoming duets release. Now that will be a vocal pairing of epic proportions.

Now, go ahead and watch her slay 'You've Got a Friend.'
