Lana Del Rey’s ‘SNL’ Performance Panned on Twitter
Internet sensation Lana Del Rey caused another Internet sensation of her own this weekend following her 'Saturday Night Live' debut. The Twitterverse was in a frenzy over her performance, with famous detractors and fan defenders alike throwing in their two cents about the sleepy-eyed songstress.
Actress and singer Juliette Lewis was wholly unimpressed with Del Rey, tweeting, "Wow watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12 yearold [sic] in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes.” (The post has since been taken down.) Actress Eliza Dushku agreed, writing, ""Who.....is.....this wack-a-doodle chick performing on #SNL..? Whaaaa?"
They weren't alone -- much of the viewing public was let down and thought that Del Rey didn't live up to her hype. The Hollywood Reporter compiled some of the most telling tweets, including one from @karen_g, who wrote, "Watching Seth Meyers walk up to Lana Del Rey, shaking his head and saying, 'It wasn't bad!' says just about everything, doesn't it? Ouch."
However, not everyone was so hard on Del Rey, who may be a target for extra vitriol because she's one of very few artists who appeared on 'SNL' before their albums dropped. Fans and media alike pointed out that she was visibly nervous (who wouldn't be?!), and even Lewis stuck up for the 'Video Games' chanteuse -- and we think she speaks for the masses with her message.
"I woke up singing a @LanaDelRey song! Such great haunting melodies!" Lewis tweeted. "Regardless of my own taste LIVE she's a #FreshandYummy songwriter.Period."
