Leonardo DiCaprio Explains Why He Laughed at Lady Gaga
At the 2016 Golden Globes last night (January 10), Lady Gaga walked away with the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series of TV Movie for her role as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel—her first ever.
Just as memorable (and certainly more meme-worthy) than her win: Leonardo DiCaprio's reaction to it as she walked by his table. DiCaprio can be seen laughing as Gaga barges past him in a state of shock and brushes up against his elbow.
The 41-year-old actor, who took home the award for Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture for The Revenant, also noticeably winced following the collision with Gaga, perhaps shocked that she didn't pause to excuse herself or apologize.
When a reporter from Entertainment Tonight presented DiCaprio with the news that his reaction was trending, he replied, "Oh Lord—that's trending, huh?"
His explanation for the face he made is disconcertingly straightforward, with him claiming "I just didn't know what was passing me—that's all!" But the fact that he said "what" instead of "who" makes the explanation seem just as shady as the reaction itself.
DiCaprio also threw a mild jab at Hollywood's lack of risks when he accepted his Best Actor award, saying "[The Revenant] is a type of film that you won’t see coming out of the Hollywood studio system very often. It’s an epic art film and I’m just so happy it got recognized tonight." He also expressed a desire to do more movies like it in the future, adding "I want the studios to take more chances on movies like this.”
Was DiCaprio being as shady as the internet says he was? Weigh in.
