The ‘Love Actually’ Mini-Sequel: See the Teaser Video and Behind-the-Scenes Photos
Update: Watch the new trailer for Red Nose Day's Love Actually mini-sequel above. Via the movie's iconic cue cards, Lucia Moniz and Keira Knightley touches on a question at the forefront of many revival viewers' minds: "Tune in to see what happened to everyone...and, amongst other things, which one of us has aged best."
Most of the cast of the 2004 romantic comedy, as well as original writer/director Richard Curtis, reassembled to film a 10-minute "sequel" for a Red Nose Day special airing on the BBC on March 24 in the UK, and March 25 in the US on NBC.
Ain't it Cool News reports that the original stars — Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Bill Nighy, Colin Firth, Lucia Moniz, Liam Neeson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Olivia Olsen, Keira Knightley, Andrew Lincoln, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rowan Atkinson — have all filmed new scenes updating fans as to the whereabouts of their characters in 2017.
“I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love Actually, but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is now up to." Curtis told The Independent. "We hope to make something that’ll be fun – very much in the spirit of the original film and of Red Nose Day. It’ll certainly be a nostalgic moment getting back together.”
Unfortunately, Curtis also revealed that Emma Thompson was not involved in the project, as she felt it was too soon after the death of her on-screen husband, the late Alan Rickman, who passed away in 2016.
Red Nose Day producer Emma Freud (who is married to Curtis) shared on Twitter some behind the scenes photos from the shoot and may have leaked a spoiler that the Prime Minister and Natalie ended up getting hitched! And is Mark (Lincoln) still holding up signs professing his love to Juliet (Knightley)? We shall find out soon.
