Much has been made about the stunning, classic black and white photos that accompany Britney Spears' April cover story for Out, but the mag has issued a second cover for its first 'Ladies We Love' feature to include none other than Madonna.

It's ironic that the two ladies grace a gay lifestyle magazine -- given the steamy kiss they shared at the MTV VMAs years back.

While Brit Brit's cover boasts contemporary, new shots of the singer, Madge's cover is a blast from the past and highlights her iconic, oft-copied punk rock look from 1982, right before she became a household name. The accompanying spread -- which also includes 18 web-exclusive images -- features photos of Madonna wearing multiple layers of belts, lots of denim and her signature armful of rubber bracelets. It was shot by snapper Richard Corman, who recalls when the singer offered him coffee and bubblegum when they first met at her NYC walkup.

Corman recalled the vibe of the early '80s and the sense that Madge was on the cusp of superstardom, saying, "People were truly taking chances. It was just a different energy, and Madonna was the focal point for a lot of that."

He refers to her as "the Pied Piper of the neighborhood," as she led him to the rooftop of her building and sang and danced with the kids who lived among her. Corman adds, "She was so alive and unpretentious. She was fierce, determined. Nothing was going to stop her." That "life" is evident in the photos, which includes shots of the Material Girl with local kids, dancers, elderly folks and in rundown locations.
