Madonna has remained mum about rapper M.I.A. flipping the bird during the Super Bowl halftime show, save for a terse comment via her publicist, who said "It was not rehearsed or planned. No comment from Madonna."

While Madge may not be issuing a public statement about the matter, we wouldn't be surprised if she is fuming over the incident, since she promised a clean, nipple-free show and it was her show, not M.I.A.'s. The 'Bad Girls' singer stole Madge's thunder a little -- we know Madonna doesn't take too kindly to that!

A source close to the rapper said that M.I.A. is apologetic and that "she wasn't thinking. She was caught in the moment and she's incredibly sorry." M.I.A. has not issued a public apology herself and has gone silent on Twitter; Madge is supposedly hopping mad about the whole stunt.

Ace Showbiz reports that a source said, "Madonna wasn't impressed. She prides herself on professionalism. M.I.A did nothing similar in rehearsals. Nobody knew she was going to pull this stunt."

Madge is allegedly so infuriated because she was committed to putting on a show-stopping performance and M.I.A.'s single-digit salute certainly marred it a bit. The source continued, "Madonna wanted to put on a world-beating performance. But everyone ended up talking about this girl's middle finger."

Stealing the spotlight from Madonna is a pop music faux pas of the highest order. Madge reigns atop the pop food chain and M.I.A.'s action surely isn't sitting well with the queen.
