Veteran R&B/soul icons Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder are among the music dignitaries that will be saluted at the Fifth Annual BET Honors. The all-star event was created to celebrate the achievements of African-Americans in music, entertainment, literature and service.

Poet Maya Angelou, filmmaker Spike Lee, the Tuskegee Airmen and educator Beverly Kearney are also being honored at the all-star event. Hollywood starlet Gabrielle Union is the host of the BET Honors, which takes place at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 14. BET will broadcast the show at a later date.

Carey and Wonder joins a stellar list of previous honorees including Jamie Foxx, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock, Diddy, Cicely Tyson, Queen Latifah and many others. In the coming weeks, announcements will be made of performers and presenters who will grace the stage to recognize this year's distinguished list at the BET Honors.

We are excited that Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and the other celebrities are being saluted at the BET Honors. We're crossing our fingers and hoping that Carey and Wonder will perform an awesome duet at the event.
