Despite their pending divorce, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson's bond as friends remain strong, even after recent reports surfaced of a possible custody battle over their two-year-old son, Bronx.

Over the weekend, the two were spotted at a Hollywood In-N-Out Burger drive-thru. Plus, Monday morning, while being interviewed on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM morning show, Wentz spoke highly of his soon-to-be ex-wife.

"Ashlee's been my best friend for five years," Wentz told Seacrest. "She's the mother of my child. I have nothing but love and respect for her. Going through something like this isn't easy, but we're friends, and the most important thing is to put our son first."

Wentz, who has formed a new band Black Cards, admits that going through a public divorce isn't always easy.

"It's hard to maintain your private life," he says. "You want to do it, especially when there's a kid involved. It's like the one time on earth I'm like, 'Thank God Charlie Sheen exists!'"

Simpson and Wentz have continued to put their son's needs first through the transition. The proud father said his son is doing "awesome" and is carrying on just fine.

"He's crazy. It's something new everyday," Wentz says. "Everything's like a new discovery for him. All of a sudden he's opening doors and all of a sudden he wants to paint. His new thing is hiding cell phones and credit cards. I'm like, 'So where's dad's cell phone?' And he laughs. He thinks it's a comedy bit."
