Rihanna struggles with a possible breakup in the music video for her new song 'California King Bed.'

A drafty beach house is the setting as Rihanna sings the forlorn ballad. Initially, the crimson-haired singer and a lover lie "chest to chest," as described in the song. Before long, though, the two are on opposite ends of the bed, miles apart in metaphorical terms.

Unable to connect with her partner, Rihanna wraps herself in the flowing curtains and sits alone in an armchair. The singer appears delicate but beautiful, with soft lighting and slow-motion shots used to set the mood.

The video's emotional high comes when Rihanna runs outside. The picture fades to black and white as she screams:

"Just when I felt like giving up on us / You turned around and gave me one last touch / That made everything feel better / And even then my eyes got wetter / So confused, wanna ask you if you love me / But I don't wanna seem so weak / Maybe I've been California dreaming."

The video was shot by Anthony Mandler, who has directed more than a dozen clips for the singer, including 'Unfaithful,' 'Disturbia, 'Rehab' and 'Take a Bow.'

'California King Bed' is the next single from Rihanna's 'Loud' album.
