Ryan Seacrest has been the host of 'American Idol' over the course of 10 seasons, and now the producer and  radio/TV personality is in talks with NBC to launch his own singing competition series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Ryan Seacrest Productions project is "not a traditional competition show," and it is unclear whether the 36-year-old will host the program.

However, the trade magazine does assert that the new show will not compete with 'Idol,' which currently pays the media mogul $15 million per year. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense to host a show competing with Idol,” Seacrest told THR in March. “I think it’s possible [to be the face of another show in the future], but at this point I certainly have not even gone down that road because Idol is in a great place, so I think we’re just enjoying that and we want to focus on that."

According to the New York Post, which broke the story on Monday, the series will be a "totally different kind of competition show," says Paul Telegdy, the NBC's head of alternative programming. "It is self-contained episodes. It is a bit more fun. It's not contestant competitive. It's artist competitive."

Seacrest's contract with 'Idol' parent company CKX prevents him from appearing on any other broadcast network until 2012, which is the earliest audiences would see the debut of the as-yet-untitled series. Seacrest is currently the producer of several shows -- including the Kardashian franchise and 'Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution' -- and the music-themed program is one of 20 shows that RSP has in development.
