‘BGT’ Fans Call Simon Cowell Sexist After Remarks on Contestant’s Legs
So far, Simon Cowell's a big hit on the new season of America's Got Talent. As for his tenure on Britain's Got Talent? Well, things aren't going so smoothly.
In the competition show's semifinal rounds, contestant Josephine Lee spelled out hopes in a pre-performance package to be a strong woman magician in a field that's typically dominated by men. She said women in the industry are routinely only recognized as assistants, and audiences cheered on her mission to break through the trick-glass ceiling.
Sadly, Cowell wasn't a big fan of Lee's platform, and basically told her trying to be strong was trite and boring.
"Everything was great apart from the really annoying commentary," he said. "There was part of me that was like, 'I get it, you're a girl, blah blah blah blah blah.'"
And then, he so gracefully added:
"I liked the legs."
"You get my point," Cowell continued as the audience booed. "I get it, you don't want to be the magician's assistant, you want to be the magician, but after a while, it's like, 'This is beginning to irritate me.' I thought what you did was really clever, but I still don't think you have the showmanship."
Welp, naturally, Twitter did not appreciate Cowell's dismissal so much. Take a look at some biting backlash below:
