'The Voice' contestant Curtis Grimes (and Team Cee Lo) gives the lowdown on next week's "Battle" episode, where teammates are pitted against each other and the celebrity coaches -- Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine -- must choose which of their proteges will advance.

Grimes explains to Taste of Country, "All of us on Cee Lo’s team get paired up against each other and sing a song, the same song. At the end of the song, Cee Lo picks who wins and goes on. So, after the next round there will be four people left on each team."

Grimes, an aspiring country singer, performed Shelton's 'Hillbilly Bone' at his audition, but says he was pleased to end up on Green's team rather than Team Shelton:

"Blake was the last coach that they added, so before that, my No. 1 coach was Cee Lo," he says. "Cee Lo is an awesome producer, he knows a lot about music and the music industry, and I thought it would be neat to work with someone from a completely different mindset, you know?"

In fact, Grimes didn't even want to sing 'Hillbilly Bone' during the auditions, but he says the producers of the show gave him little choice:

"They kinda recommend the song that you’re gonna do. You don’t really have a choice," he says, laughing. "That wouldn’t have been my first song choice if I was going to do a Blake Shelton song. That’s just kinda what they had me go with."

But, Grimes seems to shrug it all off quite humorously, and has a great mindset for the upcoming episodes, where he'll be mentored by Green. "He’s a really, really smart guy, but I can’t keep up with what’s going on in his head all the time," Grimes says of Green's quirky yet helpful advice. "He uses a lot of big words and I can’t understand half of them. But he’s a nice guy. He’s a little weird and little different but it’s cool to work with someone that’s on that level, and that’s not a country person."

Grimes will have a challenge on his hands during the first "Battle" episode, not because of any shortcomings of his own but because Green's team appears strong. Find out how he fares when the show airs Tuesday on NBC.
