Disaster was narrowly averted during the 'X Factor' finale this week -- and we aren't talking about someone flubbing a note or forgetting the lyrics to a song.

This time, the accident happened backstage, where a stair riser came unhinged and hit three stagehands, all of whom fortunately seem to have escaped serious injury.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the incident took place in the closing minutes of the show, just as 50 Cent was beginning his performance. Although it must have been terrifying for anyone who watched it happen, at least one of the injured stagehands was heard saying "I'm fine!" and joking about the irony of an accident "on the f---ing last night of the show." All three injured crew members were taken to the hospital for examination, where we're hoping they received a clean bill of health.

It was a much better night for Melanie Amaro, who walked away with the 'X Factor' championship -- plus a $5 million recording contract and a role in an upcoming Pepsi commercial. As you might imagine, the emotional Amaro had a hard time describing what it felt like to win, only managing to say "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God" before delivering a show-stopping rendition of 'Listen.' Congratulations, Melanie!
