L.A. Reid says Marcus Canty is a joy to work with. Lucky for us viewers, he's also a joy to listen to as well! We were definitely apprehensive about Canty coming into Rock Week and shining like he normally does, but he quickly eased our anxiety.

Canty brought a smoothed-out gospel vibe to a song popularized by Janis Joplin -- yes, that same lady with the raw and gravelly voice. Joplin was all about sex, drugs and rock n' roll, but Marcus performed 'Piece of My Heart' the only way he knew how -- as a preacher's kid. And you know what? It worked.

Since Canty is such a performer, we often don't notice anything else around him, which made the surrounding spectacle of flames and gyrating dancers a little much. Simon Cowell said it best when he remarked, "Your mentor, the devil. Just put you in hell." But then again, it is Rock Week.

It seems as though they've saved the best for last on tonight's show and if Marcus keeps pumping out performances like this, he's liable to take a little piece of our heart with him every week!
