Adele tops the list of nominees for the 2011 American Music Awards with four nominations, while a host of artists, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry, trail just behind with three noms each.

Adele's nods are for Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. The British singer is likely to dominate the major music award shows in the coming months, and she's off to a good start with the AMA recognition.

Joining Adele in the Artist of the Year category are Gaga, Perry, Taylor Swift and Lil Wayne. Other acts with three nominations include Swift, Lil Wayne, and country trio The Band Perry.
