Rihanna's 30th birthday is starting off with a side of controversy.

Chris Brown, the ANTI- singer's ex, took to Instagram on Tuesday (February 20) to celebrate her big 3-0, captioning what looks like a baby picture of the Barbados-born star with, ""HAPPY BIRTHDAY @badgalriri." His message, however, didn't go over well with RiRi fans, who soon began to air their grievances online. "KEEP RIHANNA'S NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH," commented one user. Added another: “Delete this?? Abusing women and continuing to stalk them long after they’ve moved on is creepy and sad, not funny or cute."

The two famously dated from 2008 to 2009 before a pre-Grammys argument brought their relationship to a violent halt. Images of Rihanna with visible bruises began circulating online, leading to rumors of domestic abuse. Brown addressed the altercation in his 2017 documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life, saying a disagreement about his past relationships escalated to him hitting Rihanna “with a closed fist” while driving, according to Billboard.

One month after the incident, Brown was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats. He pled guilty to the felony assault charge and accepted a plea deal that included five years probation, six months of community service, and one year of mandatory domestic violence counseling. A judge also instituted a five-year restraining order that required Brown to say at least 50 yards away from Rihanna at all times.

The couple briefly reunited in 2012, teaming for Unapologetic single "Nobody's Business," before splitting for good the following year. "If you put up with it, maybe you are agreeing that you [deserve] this, and that’s when I finally had to say, ‘Uh-oh, I was stupid thinking I was built for this,'" Rihanna told Vanity Fair of the relationship in 2015. "Sometimes you just have to walk away."

Still, Ri insisted she would care about Brown "until the day [she dies]" — a sentiment many of her followers apparently don't share. Check out some of the heated reactions below.
