Christina Aguilera got right down to the difficult "nitty gritty" of paring down her team on week three of 'The Voice,' pitting two of the strongest singing contestants against each other right out of the gate.

Tarralyn Ramsey was pitted against former 'American Idol' contestant Frenchie Davis to sing 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)' together, knowing full well that only one of them would be chosen to continue on to future weeks.

Ramsey may have admitted to being slightly intimidated, having seen Davis perform on Broadway in 'Rent,' but her rehearsal singing didn't show it. In fact, Aguilera picked up on, and seemingly tried to fuel, the competitive feelings between the two singers: "Uh oh, is there tension in the room right now? I can feeeeeeel it!"

Just before their actual performance, though, Aguilera urged them to work together and enjoy themselves, saying, "I just wanna make sure you don't suck the fun out of it. Sometimes you need the support and help of each other."

When it was over, Aguilera and the rest of the judges seemed satisfied that the "fun" goal was accomplished, with Adam Levine declaring that he momentarily forget the two were competing, and Blake comparing the duet to an exciting boxing match.

In the end, though, Aguilera and her special guest coach Sia had a difficult decision to make, and after much hemming and hawing, they chose Frenchie Davis. So now Davis gets to chill out and watch three more pairs of teammates attempt to outdo each other over the next few weeks for the right to face her.
