Chvrches Dazzle With Dreamy Cover of The 1975’s ‘Somebody Else’
Chvrches' latest cover totally validates their faithful streak as musicians with the Midas touch.
During a brief respite at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Thursday (March 15), the indie-pop trio — composed of members Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty, and Iain Cook — gifted listening ears with an interstellar tribute rendition of The 1975's somber nocturne, "Somebody Else."
Sparked at first by the band's signature drum grooves and planetary synth spells, Mayberry gazes on while reciting the lyrics at a pace and pitch that's completely her own. And as the room undulates with timely vocal improvisations and droning cadences in and out of the song's bridge and climax, it's quite illogical not to get swept into the sonic bliss of it all.
No stranger to delivering praise-worthy covers — listen to their take of Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean?" or their classic rework of Arctic Monkeys' "Do I Wanna Know?" for proof — the Scottish-rock group's latest showcase reaffirms their rank as experts of interpretation.
