There is truly no greater plague upon this Earth than when "serious" and "respected" artists feel the need to improve upon a pop song by going the acoustic route -- as though stripping a song of all its fun, upbeat elements somehow gives it more credibility. Thankfully, synth-pop band Chvrches knows a thing or two about the value that lies in upbeat, catchy tracks, and their rendition of Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean" keeps the original feel largely intact.

The group covered Bieber's latest single during a recent stop at BBC 1 Radio's Live Lounge, delivering a mostly-faithful version of the track without betraying their signature sound.

Chvrches are currently on a whirlwind promo tour for their upcoming sophomore album Every Open Eye, which is set to be released later this week (September 25). The album's available to stream in its entirety online now, five days ahead of schedule. If you haven't listened yet, you should -- it's a worthy followup to their debut album, 2013's The Bones of What You Believe.

Check out Chvrches' cover of "What Do You Mean" in the video above and then let us know how it makes you feel. Do you love it? Should Bieber respond with his own Chvrches cover? Or do you think that would send the hipster subset of the population into panic? Let us know in the comments!
