Alanis Morissette's breakthrough album Jagged Little Pill turned 20 this year. She recently gifted the world with some previously unreleased Jagged demos, and she marked the occasion at last night's American Music Awards with a special performance of "You Oughta Know" — joined by Demi Lovato!

Morissette won Favorite Pop/Rock Album for Jagged as well as Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist back in 1997. But she didn't attend that year, and while last night was her very first AMAs performance, it was worth the wait. The singer-songwriter was well matched by Lovato, whose vocal delivery on "Waitin For You" is reminiscent of Morissette's fiery "You Oughta Know."

Both dressed in all black — Demi favored more of a "wet look" while Alanis kept it classic in a blazer — the two traded lyrics, drawing an enthusiastic response from the star-studded crowd. Demi met each of Alanis’ signature yelps and sneers with ease. It was enough to make us long for an encore performance — maybe the two could tackle "You Learn" or "Hand In My Pocket" together?

Watch a video of the classic's updated rendition below, and let us know which performance wins your vote for best of the evening.
