We're sad to report that Patrick Lovato, Demi Lovato's father, has passed away.

Details are scant, but Demi's sister, Dallas, broke the news on Twitter today (June 22), sending "#RIPPatrickLovato" trending worldwide:

Patrick had dealt with health issues for a while now, and at one point begged Demi to reach out to him when he was undergoing surgery.

Patrick and Demi's mother, Dianna, divorced in 1994 when Demi was only two years old. Demi is said to have last visited him in 2008. Patrick frequently begged Demi in the press to visit him.

"Demi and I haven’t spoken in so long and all I want her to do is call her daddy," Patrick said in February 2012. "I'm begging her the only way I know how. I want to talk with her so badly ... We were so close when she was little. My little daughter was my partner, I just love her so much."

Mr. Lovato resorted to even further begging, saying, "I want Demi to know that I would do anything in the world for my little girl, I just want to hear her voice. Demi, please call your daddy!"

Demi's sentiments were a bit different. In November 2011 she simply said, "Sometimes there are people in your life that you have to cut out. It sucks when it’s your own father. But I know what’s best for me."

Our thoughts are with Demi, Dallas and their loved ones at this time. Estranged or not, it's a tragic situation for everyone involved.
